Can you briefly introduce yourself (name, profession, country)?
My name is Alison Debrincat Debono, and I am based in Malta. I currently work in the CEO’s Office of a leading construction company, where I support the strategic and operational management of the business, particularly in organizational restructuring and transformation initiatives.
What was your professional or personal situation before enrolling in the course?
Before enrolling in the Doctorate in Business Administration, I had already gained cross-industry experience with enterprise-wide exposure through many years of working closely within various CEOs’ offices, alongside recent experience in Human Resources before entering the construction industry.
Having recently completed an International MBA and embarked on doctoral journey, I currently assist the CEO in the overall management of the business, with a strong focus on organizational restructuring and long-term strategic growth. I wanted to further strengthen my strategic, leadership, and research capabilities to contribute more effectively at the executive level.
What motivated you to enroll in this course?
My motivation stemmed from a genuine passion for continuous learning and professional growth. Having completed an International MBA, I wanted to deepen my knowledge further and develop a stronger research-based approach to business leadership and decision-making.
Given the fast-paced nature of the construction industry, I felt the DBA would provide me with the academic depth and strategic insight necessary to contribute more effectively to organizational transformation and long-term business sustainability.
What were you hoping to achieve at that time?
At the time, I was hoping to further develop my strategic thinking, leadership capabilities, and business research skills. I wanted to bridge academic knowledge with practical business application and strengthen my ability to contribute meaningfully to executive decision-making and organizational change.
I also saw the course as an opportunity for both personal and professional development, helping me grow into a more confident and informed leader.
How did the course help you—professionally or personally?
The course helped me strengthen my critical thinking, analytical, and strategic decision-making skills. Professionally, it enhanced my confidence in approaching business challenges with a more structured and evidence-based mindset.
Personally, it reinforced discipline, resilience, and the importance of lifelong learning. Balancing doctoral studies alongside a demanding professional role also helped me grow significantly in terms of time management and perseverance.
Was there any specific module or learning that made a big difference for you?
The modules relating to strategic management, research, and organizational leadership had a particularly strong impact on me. They provided practical frameworks and perspectives that I could immediately relate to and apply within my professional environment, especially in areas relating to restructuring, people management, and organizational effectiveness.
Can you share a specific change or achievement after completing the course?
One of the biggest achievements has been the confidence and clarity gained in contributing to executive-level discussions and organizational decision-making. The learning experience strengthened my ability to approach challenges strategically and with a stronger research foundation.
The course also complemented my transition into a more strategic role, where I am actively contributing to business restructuring and organizational development.
How do you think access to quality education like this can help learners who otherwise may not afford it?
Access to quality education creates opportunities that may otherwise be out of reach for many individuals. Flexible and accessible learning models empower professionals to continue developing themselves academically while balancing careers, family, and financial commitments.
Education should not be limited by geography or affordability, and programmes like these help make meaningful professional development more attainable.
What would you say to someone considering this course but unsure about enrolling?
I would encourage them to take the step. While balancing studies with professional and personal commitments can be challenging, the experience is incredibly rewarding. The knowledge gained, confidence built, and personal growth achieved make the journey truly worthwhile.
If you are committed to continuous learning and achieving your professional goals, it is definitely an investment in yourself and your future.
