MBA in Energy Management | Batch 2023

Can you briefly introduce yourself ?

My name is Yohanes Agustian, and I am pursuing an MBA in Energy Management. I am a Sustainability Professional working in the mining and industrial services sector in Indonesia, with a strong focus on energy efficiency, renewable energy integration, and sustainability initiatives.

What was your professional or personal situation before enrolling in the course?

Before enrolling, I was already working in environmental and sustainability‑related roles, but my involvement in energy management was still limited and mostly operational. I wanted to transition into a more strategic role in the energy transition, yet I felt I lacked a solid business and financial foundation to confidently influence management‑level decisions.

What motivated you to enroll in this course?

I was motivated by the growing importance of energy transition, decarbonization, and renewable energy, particularly in energy‑intensive industries like mining. I wanted a structured program that could bridge technical energy concepts with business strategy and leadership, enabling me to contribute more effectively at the organizational level.

What were you hoping to achieve at that time?

I aimed to gain practical knowledge in energy management, strengthen my financial and strategic thinking, and build the confidence to engage with senior leaders on energy‑related decisions. Ultimately, I wanted the qualification to support my transition into a formal Energy Manager role.

How did the course help you-professionally or personally?

The course helped me significantly in several ways. It improved my strategic and financial decision‑making skills, strengthened my understanding of energy‑efficient systems and renewable energy projects. It significantly increased my confidence when communicating with management and stakeholders, and gave me clearer career direction in energy and sustainability. Professionally, it directly supported my appointment as an Energy Manager.

Was there any specific module or learning that made a big difference for you?

Yes. Modules related to principles of energy management, energy-efficient buildings, sustainability and business, and strategic project management made a big difference. These helped me understand how energy projects are evaluated not only technically, but also economically and strategically.

Can you share a specific change or achievement after completing the course?

After completing the course, I gained a much stronger bargaining position to transition into an Energy Manager role. The MBA equipped me with the technical, financial, and strategic knowledge needed to engage confidently with senior management on energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives. I am now actively involved in energy‑related planning and discussions, and the qualification has positioned me well for an upcoming formal appointment as an Energy Manager.

How do you think access to quality education like this can help learners who otherwise may not afford it?

Access to quality education like this can be lifechanging. It allows professionals to upskill, gain confidence, and unlock career opportunities that might otherwise remain inaccessible. For learners from developing countries or non-traditional backgrounds, it can accelerate career growth and enable them to contribute meaningfully to global challenges such as energy transition and climate change.

What would you say to someone considering this course but unsure about enrolling?

I would say that if you are serious about building a career in energy, sustainability, or leadership, this course is worth it. It is practical, relevant, and directly applicable to real-world challenges. Even if you are unsure at first, the knowledge and perspective you gain will stay with you and open doors you may not expect.
