Please tell us about yourself, your family and your interests.

My name is Ravindran and I am from Malaysia. I graduated from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, UK in 1995 with an LL.B degree.  I am 50 years old and have over 21 years of experience in the education sector.  I accepted the Voluntary Separation Scheme and left Monash University, Malaysia on  November 6, 2020, having served as an Administrative Executive (Course Administration) for five years. I am married to a teacher and have a nine year old daughter.

What drew you to the program you are studying at Athena? Is it living up to your expectations?

I am interested in getting a feel of a postgraduate course by simply starting with a 20 credit unit without enrolling into a full Masters programme. I have just started the course and it is interesting.

What would you like to do after completing this course from Athena?

I just need to know if HR is a suitable field for me to proceed further in terms of academic and also work experience. This course would be a good start.

What do you think makes a great teacher?

A great teacher makes sure his / her students understand what is taught. It is important for a teacher to explain a subject in the simplest language.

What’s your dream job?

I hope to be able to manage people – a manager of a team of staff.

What is the most courageous thing you have ever done?

The most courageous thing I did was studying law.  Although I was a weak student in high school, I did my best at university as I was always interested in studying law.

What is your best childhood memory?

My best childhood memory was living near the beach when I was a little boy.  My father, brother and I would walk to the beach every day.

What is your idea of a perfect vacation?

My perfect vacation would be to visit the UK with my family so that I can show them where I studied over 26 years ago.

Which fictional character (character from a film, book, TV series, play) would you like to be friends with?

I would like to be friends with MacGyver, the title character and protagonist in the TV series MacGyver as he manages to solve every problem.  I want to be like him, especially to help people solve problems with any kind of skills and knowledge I have.

Mention one important lesson you have learned in life that made you what you are today.

There are no shortcuts in life. Everyone needs to work hard to achieve their goal.  You will always have success with hard work and prayers.
