Please tell us about yourself, your family and your interests.

I was born and grew up in Nairobi, Kenya. I have one brother. I come from a Christian family. I completed my undergraduate program in International Studies and Community Development in 2018 and thereafter got a job with an international NGO based in Nairobi, International Justice Mission. Although my 40-hour workweek keeps me busy, I find time to indulge in things I like. I enjoy baking, watching Christmas movies (Christmas happens to be my favorite time of the year), and blogging (I run a personal blog known as Writing Escapades which focuses on social issues, life as a millennial).

What drew you to the program you are studying at Athena? Is it living up to your expectations?

I appreciate that UniAthena has an accelerated MBA-GM program of nine months and that you can work around a very busy schedule, such as mine.

What would you like to do after completing this course from Athena?

I believe this program will be beneficial in helping me grow in my career – I would like the opportunity to apply for other jobs either in my organization or outside.

What do you think makes a great teacher?

A great teacher first understands that each student has different learning capacities and capabilities – what takes one student to learn and grasp in five minutes can take another student half an hour to understand. Understanding and working with students from different learning capacities and capabilities makes a good teacher.

A good teacher also ensures that students understand the concepts taught and presented. Various processes, namely, group discussions, critical thinking-based questions that relate to everyday situations, projects and others can be applied so that students comprehend what they are taught.

What’s your dream job?

Running my own NGO / Non-profit organization that helps students from low-income families pursue higher education. It seems pretty ambitious for now, but I would love to help people achieve their dreams despite their socio-economic struggles.

What is the most courageous thing you have ever done?

Zip-lining – it was scary but an adventure I will never forget. I mark it as a memorable one.

What is your best childhood memory?

Opening presents on Christmas Day – nothing can explain the excitement on a child’s face holding a present.

What is your idea of a perfect vacation?

Going to the beach – I live in a tropical country, so I love everything from sunshine, beach, and sand. It screams vacation to me.

Which fictional character (character from a film, book, TV series, play) would you like to be friends with?

I would like to be friends with Dr. Spencer Reid from the TV Series, Criminal Minds.

Mention one important lesson you have learned in life that made you what you are today.

Never give up – even if the situation presented is the most challenging one you have faced. Don’t give up because difficult situations in life make us stronger and shape us.
