Firstly, the programme's emphasis on practical skills, coupled with theoretical knowledge, convinced me that UniAthena would provide the ideal learning environment to enhance my expertise in this specific area. What would you like to learn next?

Currently, before I think about what I want to learn next, I want to first concentrate on the course I'm currently pursuing and excel in it. Following that, I will be able to identify avenues for what to learn next. Yet, I will highly consider an MBA course or a Project management qualification.

What are your next career steps?

Based on my background in Building Economics/Quantity surveying and the completion of a Postgraduate Diploma in Procurement & Contract Management, I plan to concentrate on advancing my professional growth. I endeavor to take on new challenging tasks in line with my expertise, especially those pertaining to the built environment and general infrastructure sector.

How has your academic journey prepared you for your career?

My academic journey has enabled me to acquire new skills like critical thinking and problem-solving, communication and collaboration, networking, personal growth and adaptation, and building professional connections.

Tell us about a time you planned and accomplished a challenging goal.

During my recent opportunity with one consultant as an Assistant Quantity surveyor, I was tasked with preparing cost documents for an extensive agricultural project that involved dealing with green houses to establish a seed irrigation scheme for farmers. I had to extensively read various design documents as the client’s representative was coordinating from another country, which required me to correspond on various aspects of the project for better clarity. I managed to prepare comprehensive costing files that could be used by the client for the procurement of the project and finding the right contractor for the job.

Considering all the people you've met in your field, what personal attributes do you believe are essential for success?

I would consider some of the following attributes: Perseverance and resilience, self-motivation and initiative, continuous learning and adaptability, strong work ethics, effective communication and interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence and empathy, integrity, and professionalism, among others.

Describe a time you stepped outside your comfort zone and demonstrated leadership skills.

In a previous team project, I found myself in a situation where group dynamics were challenging and progress was stagnating. Recognising the need for leadership and a change in approach, I decided to step outside my comfort zone and take the initiative to address the situation and bring the project to fruition.

Which book would you recommend as a must-read for everyone, and why?

I would recommend The Alchemist by Paul Coelho. "The Alchemist" is a novel that tells the story of a young shepherd named Santiago, who embarks on a journey to fulfill his dreams. It explores aspects related to personal growth, self-discovery, following one's passions, and finding one's purpose in life.

What is your dream job, and why?

My dream job is to become an effective professional, highly knowledgeable and skilled in sustainable procurement, construction finance, contract administration, and project management.

Do you have any message for professionals just starting out in their careers?

My message to upcoming professionals is to have a growth mindset, build meaningful relationships and networks, seek feedback and learn from others, find work-life balance, embrace resilience and perseverance, and, finally, set clear professional goals ahead.
