Tell us about yourself and what made you choose your program at UniAthena? How do you think it will help you in your future career?

My name is Waqar Ahmed, and I’m 30 years old. I have earned my Bachelor of Arts following a Diploma in Warehouse Management. I began my professional career as a storekeeper back in 2015. In 2018, I moved to Saudi Arabia to explore better career opportunities. Consequently, I started my professional journey in logistics and supply chain management as a logistics officer at Fetchr Logistics. After that, I joined JollyChic as an Operations team leader, further honing my expertise in operations management.

Later, I held the position of Fulfilment Supervisor with Zajil Express, where I gained hands-on experience in the e-commerce fulfilment processes. In 2022, I stepped into my current role as a Distribution & Sorting Centre Supervisor in Riyadh City, managing operations and contributing to the efficient movement of goods. As I have a solid background in logistics and Supply Chain Management, I chose to enhance my professional qualifications with a recognized certification in this field.

Following extensive research, I found that UniAthena offers a suitable option to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Supply Chain and Logistics ManagementGiven the vast opportunities in the Saudi market and my growing experience, I believe I can progress to top management roles within leading logistics and supply chain companies.

What are you most excited to learn or explore next in your studies

Given my experience in operations and logistics, I am highly inclined to deepen my understanding and stay updated with industry trends and best practices.

Could you outline the career goals you have in mind after completing your current academic journey?

Yes, considering the expanding job opportunities in Supply Chain Management, Operations and Logistics, I want to pursue a Master's degree after completing my PG Diploma. My goal is to emerge as an Operations and Logistics Manager at a reputed company.

How are you managing your studies along with the work in your personal life?

I believe managing studies alongside work is highly effective. It allows me to apply theoretical knowledge directly to real-life scenarios, making learning more practical and impactful. Whenever theory and practice go hand-in-hand, it not only strengthens my understanding but also keeps me motivated to grow both academically and professionally.

Share a specific example of a challenging goal you set for yourself and successfully accomplished. What did you learn from this experience?

An important goal I set for myself was to secure a senior position in a reputed company. Last year, I had the opportunity to apply for the role of Sorting Centre Manager at Nestlé, a global brand. I successfully cleared all interview rounds, and my performance was highly appreciated by the Operations Department. However, when my profile was forwarded to the HR team for the final offer, they declined to proceed.

The reason was that my educational background was not aligned with supply chain management, despite my relevant experience. This experience was both motivating and eye-opening. As a result, I decided to pursue a specialised course in supply chain management, which is why I decided to enrol in a PG Diploma and plan to further pursue a Master’s degree in this field.

From your experiences so far, what personal qualities do you think are important for achieving success?

From my perspective, success requires both hard work and proper guidance from someone experienced who can help you plan your next move.

Tell us about a time when you stepped outside your comfort zone to take on a leadership role. What was the outcome?

I have always pushed myself beyond the comfort zone. This mindset helped me reach a senior position in a reputed company within 6 to 7 years. Despite my education not being in this field, I have sustained and progressed in the Supply Chain sector.

If you could recommend one book that you believe everyone should read, what would it be and why?

I enjoy reading history, so my recommendation might not directly relate to career or technical skills, but it offers valuable insights. One book I highly recommend is The Frontier Gandhi.

What is your dream job and what motivates you about it?

My dream job is to become an Operations Manager at a reputed company.

What advice would you offer to professionals who are just starting their careers based on your own experiences?

My advice for young professionals is that if you have big dreams or aspire to something big, make sure you have the right qualifications in that field, preferably a degree or diploma.
