Please tell us about yourself and your family.
My name is Vania Samara Delchot-Watchman. I am 31 years old. I have a caring husband, Serguiño Delchot, and together we have a very playful one-year-old son named Xael Jeremih Delchot. I consider myself to be an enthusiastic and hard-working professional with a passion for knowledge sharing. Furthermore, I am an experienced laboratory engineer with a proven history of working in the chemical and medical sectors. I am also skilled in management, HSEQ (ISO standards), and coaching. My leadership style is characterised by a positive image of employees and the principle "Every Human is Precious."
What drew you to the programme you are studying at UniAthena? Do you think it would help you realise your career goals?
I chose the MBA-General Management, because I would like to further develop my skills and competencies in areas such as visionary leadership, interpersonal skills, strategy and development, negotiation, and conflict management. I believe that this allows me to make an even greater contribution both within and outside of the organization, and to grow to a senior management level. Furthermore, I am convinced that gaining knowledge is the best way to keep growing. I focus on continuing to learn so that I can acquire knowledge and use it to improve various business processes. I am convinced that the MBA-GM offers the right tools to achieve my goals and ambitions.
What would you like to learn next? What are your next career steps?
My next career step would be to take on a senior management position.
What do you think makes a great teacher?
A great teacher is the one who involves the students in the lessons and pays attention to teaching lifelong lessons. Someone who therefore focuses not only on specific knowledge sharing, but also on the personal development of students.
What’s your dream job?
The answer to this question is two-fold:
If you face a problem at work, what is the first thing you do?
The first thing I do is remind myself to stay calm. With a sane mind, it is always easier to think solution-oriented and to map out the root cause of the problem. In case of major problems, I always withdraw myself for 5–10 minutes and then return to discuss the next steps with the team.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your life? How did you tackle it?
As head of the laboratory, I’ve experienced that all lab technicians switch careers within 2 months. I was on my own to train a new team of five lab technicians, which felt exhausting and overwhelming at times. A strong communication with management and the team was the key to meeting this challenge. I planned well so that day-to-day operations ran smoothly, without any major defects. I held team toolbox meetings every morning to keep track of the main issues.
Through a constructive relationship and communication with my husband, we managed to properly divide the parental responsibilities and household chores. The help of my parents and in-laws also made it possible to have a healthy balance between work and personal life. After 6 months, the team was well established, and they were able to properly operate the laboratory.
If you could only change one thing about yourself, what would it be?My patience level.

Mention one important lesson you have learned in life that has made you who you are today.
My childbirth didn't turn out as planned at all. There has never been a time in my life when I felt so scared and powerless. The uncertainty of whether or not your baby will be born healthy or if you, as a mother, will survive the birth has completely changed my outlook on life.
I deal differently with the people around me, and every day I realize that it is a blessing that I am healthy and alive. I appreciate every moment with my family, friends, and colleagues. My son is a true blessing, and the fact that I carry this experience with me every day makes me the person that I am today.
