“My workplace needs an Occupational Safety Specialist, so pursuing this specialized MBA would be beneficial given my engineering background.”
Sean Jacobs

MBA - Industrial Safety Management | Batch 2025
Why did you choose an MBA - Industrial Safety Management?
I have chosen an MBA - Industrial Safety Management because I work as a health inspector and plan to become an engineer. Industrial safety is useful for both jobs. My workplace needs an occupational safety specialist, so pursuing this MBA would be beneficial given my engineering background. I would like to explore more about construction safety, ergonomic standards and precautions, as well as safety procedures for toxic, chemical, and radioactive hazards.
What are your career goals after completing the MBA program?
After completing the program, I would like to apply for the Principal Health Inspector position or possibly a safety/health inspector role in the United Kingdom or United States. Additionally, I am interested in becoming a safety specialist in the public health department. Furthermore, I would like to engineer different items and manage a maintenance team, which would allow me to leverage my knowledge.
How do you balance work, studies, and personal life?
I have always balanced work and schoolwork well with my personal life by following a particular schedule. I work as a health inspector in the morning, study and review course content when I return home from work, and participate in activities later in the afternoon and evening. I also keep notes on my phone to track important dates. Although this busy schedule leaves limited time for personal activities, I accept this temporary lifestyle for the potential rewards.
What skills or strategies do you use to achieve your goals?
From my experience so far, I believe effective planning, proper time management, organization, and discipline can help accomplish any feasible goal within a reasonable timeframe. My planning method has been reinforced by studying project management and operations through certificate courses I have taken. I find that school projects and degree plans can be treated as projects themselves, where we plan resources and time effectively.
Have you ever stepped out of your comfort zone? If yes, how?
I stepped out of my comfort zone by studying technology and infrastructure to apply for officer and health inspector roles, which later required me to lead teams. At first, I communicated well with my team and planned based on the information gathered. However, I faced challenges handling conflicts within the team. In my workplace, conflicts are generally managed by more senior staff, which is common. Conflicts can be complicated even at higher levels and often lack actual resolution.
What book would you recommend to others and why?
I wouldn’t recommend any particular book to everyone because people have different preferences and reasons for reading. There are also different types of learners, and some may not prefer books at all. Therefore, I believe no single book should be generalized as a must-read for all.
What is your dream job?
Being a racing enthusiast, my dream job would be a performance car driver because I like the feeling of moving fast and I believe operating the machine is fun.
What advice would you give to young professionals starting their careers?
Professionals starting their careers must develop the ability to plan effectively—on a daily, weekly, monthly, and even yearly basis. They should get accustomed to identifying necessary tasks, estimating the time required to complete them, and setting realistic deadlines to meet specific goals. In many cases, maintaining a budget can also be valuable, particularly for those responsible for managing resources and finances.
