Tell us about yourself and what made you choose your program at UniAthena? How do you think it will help you in your future career?

My name is Ndawula Rayan, currently working as a Senior Airport Services Agent. I chose UniAthena because it’s flexible, affordable, and fits my career goals. I wanted to broaden my knowledge in business management to complement my diploma in Business Administration while paving the way for an MBA program in the future—all while continuing to work. This program helps me acquire the skills and knowledge needed to accelerate my career growth into managerial positions and support my entrepreneurial ambitions.

What are you most excited to learn or explore next in your studies?

I’m most excited to gain an in-depth knowledge of the business world from a managerial perspective, under the guidance of experienced tutors to support my learning throughout the course.

Could you outline your career goals you have in mind after completing your current academic journey?

After completing my academic journey, I plan to confidently apply for managerial positions within my current organization as well as in other companies. I will also feel well-equipped to take on the responsibilities entrusted to me by my fellow investors to lead our business startup project in Uganda.

How are you managing your studies along with the work in your personal life?

Despite my busy work schedule and personal commitments, I make it a priority to dedicate at least three days a week, with one hour each day, to learning something new. I believe in using my free time productively to stay consistent.

Share a specific example of a challenging goal you set for yourself and successfully accomplished. What did you learn from this experience?

I set a goal to read at least two books in five months. I began with audiobooks, then transitioned to reading. It became easier and even more engaging.

From your experiences so far, what personal qualities do you think are important for achieving success?

Key personal qualities for achieving success include resilience—the will to keep going despite challenges; discipline—the ability to stay focused on pursuing goals; adaptability—the openness to embrace change; and effective communication—the skill to collaborate with others.

Tell us about a time when you stepped outside your comfort zone to take on a leadership role. What was the outcome?

I have often taken on leadership roles, and my results have consistently been excellent because I am proactive, people listen to me, and I am trusted by my team. This has made it easier to influence others toward achieving shared goals.

One time, I was the men's section team leader and led a visual merchandising team in the store. We met the competition deadline and achieved significant sales growth due to properly displaying items on time, neatly, and in a shopper-friendly manner.

If you could recommend one book that you believe everyone should read, what would it be and why?

I would recommend ‘The Diary of a CEO’ by Steven Bartlett.

What is your dream job and what motivates you about it?

My dream job is to be a Founder and Chief Executive Officer. I am driven by the passion to lead, drive meaningful change in society, and make a positive impact on people’s lives.

What advice would you offer to professionals who are just starting their careers based on your own experiences?

My advice is to have a clear goal in life and to remain passionate, patient, and consistent in working toward it. Always keep in mind that everything worthwhile comes at a cost.
