Please tell us about yourself.
My name is Listen Jimu. Iam 47 years old, married, and a father of five children. I am of Zimbabwean ethnicity. I possess 29 years of rich experience in supply chain management. I am the Group Chairman of Larreth Group, which has branches in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Swaziland, and the Gambia.
What drew you to the programme you are studying at UniAthena?
After completing the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply qualification, my dream is to specialise in Supply chain management. UniAthena offers a Master's degree of my choice, which drew me to the programme.
Do you think it would help you realise your career goals?
Yes, I am very confident that taking this programme through a globally recognised institution like UniAthena will help me achieve my career goals.
What would you like to learn next?
I would like to gain a strategic perspective on the latest trends in supply chain and logistics management in today's volatile and ambiguous macroeconomic climate.
What are your next career steps?
My next career step is to earn a PHD in Supply Chain and Logistics Management and subsequently become a professor in the same field.
How has your academic journey prepared you for your career?
The compulsory primary and secondary education that I attended in Zimbabwe based on the UK educational curriculum and my Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) qualification prepared me mentally and physically for this role.
Tell us about a time you planned and accomplished a challenging goal.
CIPS takes three years to complete, from diploma level to professional level. However, I managed to complete it in one year, yet I was also juggling family and work commitments, which were quite demanding.
Considering all the people you've met in your field, what personal attributes do you believe are essential for success?
I will sum up the attributes by saying: Dream big, be passionate, optimistic, persistent, self-disciplined, and set your goals.
Describe a time you stepped outside your comfort zone and demonstrated leadership skills.
At the age of twenty-nine, I was hired by a couple based in Ireland, to set up a cross-border luxury bus company headquartered in South Africa with branches in five Southern African countries. The project was successful.
Which book would you recommend as a must-read for everyone, and why?
The Bible, because of its teachings on all aspects of life from Genesis to Revelation.
What is your dream job, and why?
I want to be the founder, Group Chairman, and CEO of Larreth Group with branches across all continents in the world because I dream of sharing the African supply chain expertise with the world.
Do you have any message for professionals just starting out in their careers?
It all starts with being a committed individual at work, and life will never be the same again. As a result of your expertise and commitment, you will be able to create value for any organization, regardless of its size and type.
