Tell us about yourself and what made you choose your program at UniAthena? How do you think it will help you in your future career?

Bringing over two decades of experience in the IT industry, I have always had a passion for research and continuous learning. Unfortunately, I couldn’t complete my formal education. I was pursuing an Edexcel program at a local university but had to step away due to time limitations. Despite this, I’ve always valued education and sought a flexible solution that fits my busy schedule.

UniAthena’s Postgraduate Certificate in Business Sustainability Program offers the ideal balance of flexibility and relevance to current global challenges. This program enables me to stay updated on the latest educational topics, showing others my commitment to learning and growth. This qualification will enhance my credibility and open new doors, helping me transition into leadership or advisory roles where I can offer real value to organizations.

What are you most excited to learn or explore next in your studies

I am extremely excited to explore the challenges surrounding climate change. It aligns closely with my program and personal research interests. I believe understanding and addressing climate challenges is vital not only for businesses but also for our planet. Exploring innovative solutions to mitigate these issues motivates me to think  beyond conventional scientific approaches.

Could you outline the career goals you have in mind after completing your current academic journey?

My career goal is to provide real value to companies by helping them to deliver quality services in a modern, evolving world. I aspire to take on an advisory or leadership role, with a focus on addressing global challenges like climate change. I want to empower organizations to implement sustainable solutions and create safe, thriving environments for future generations.

How are you managing your studies along with work in your personal life?

Balancing studies with work and personal life has been challenging, but my years of professional experience have taught me effective time management. I prioritize tasks, set realistic goals, and focus on flexible learning opportunities that allow me to maintain productivity in all areas.

Share a specific example of a challenging goal you set for yourself and successfully accomplished. What did you learn from this experience?

A recent challenge I undertook was researching and developing alternative perspectives on climate change topics that trascends traditional scientific discussions. Despite the resistance, I persisted, gathering evidence and presenting actionable solutions. This experience reinforced my belief in perseverance, critical thinking, and the importance of challenging the status quo.

From your experiences so far, what personal qualities do you think are important for achieving success?

The most crucial qualities for success, in my opinion, are honesty, transparency, and a commitment to quality service. Additionally, a strong focus on finding innovative solutions and an unwavering dedication to creating a positive impact make all the difference.

Tell us about a time when you stepped outside your comfort zone to take on a leadership role. What was the outcome?

I once led a project involving sustainable IT solutions for a company. It required me to manage cross-functional teams and communicate complex ideas effectively. Although I was initially outside my comfort zone, the project succeeded, resulting in increased operational efficiency and sustainability for the organization. This experience helped me grow as a leader and an adept problem solver.

If you could recommend one book that you believe everyone should read, what would it be and why?

I recommend "The Sixth Extinction" by Elizabeth Kolbert. It’s a thought provoking book that highlights the environmental crises our planet faces and emphasizes the urgent need for action. It aligns with my passion for climate change and sustainability.

What is your dream job, and what motivates you about it?

My dream job is to become a strategic advisor or leader, with a focus on driving sustainability and innovation. I am motivated by the prospect of bringing real change, addressing global challenges, and helping organizations evolve while safeguarding the planet.

What advice would you offer to professionals who are just starting their careers based on your own experiences?

For professionals just starting out, my advice is to stay curious, embrace challenges, and never stop learning. Honesty, transparency, and quality should be at the core of your work. Always think beyond immediate results and focus on solutions that add lasting value, both to your organization and to the world.
