Please tell us about yourself.
My name is Hani GA Ahmed, and I come from Yemen. I hold a B.Sc. Degree in Operations Management from the University of Arizona and have more than 15 years of experience in logistics and management. Besides that, I'm well versed in Yemeni government laws and procurement regulations, as well as INGOs' rules and protocols (for instance, procurements under IBRD Loans and IDA Credits, AFESD, EuAid programs, and the ICRC rules and procedures).
What drew you to the programme you are studying at UniAthena? Do you think it would help you realise your career goals?
The course structure at UniAthena, offered in conjunction with EU universities, proved to be highly engaging and affordable that meet industry requirements, which led me to enroll.
What would you like to learn next? What are your next career steps?
I believe life is an endless learning loop, primarily aimed at enhancing career opportunities and contributing to knowledge acquisition and develop analytical aptitude necessary to take a leadership position. Therefore, when it comes to the next career step, I would say either an MBA or highly specialized certificates.
How has your academic journey prepared you for your career?
A Bachelor's, Master's, or MBA degree exposes learners to theories in many aspects, which are then applied to real-life situations. For me, the journey was very interesting since it gave me the expertise I needed to excel in every role I have held in the past.
Considering all the people you've met in your field, what personal attributes do you believe are essential for success?
The personal attributes that I believe are the secret sauce to success are honesty, willingness to learn, sharing learnings, dedication and patience.
Describe a time you stepped outside your comfort zone and demonstrated leadership skills.
It happens from time to time and each time I step outside my comfort zone, I always remind myself that it is one another step of learning, yet an exercise to analyze and solve issues together with my team. You have to make decisions and hold yourself accountable without blaming others.
Which book would you recommend as a must-read for everyone, and why?
Nothing in particular, however, in the event someone has the time, then I would advise her/him "don't waste your time and invest it in reading“. Reading is knowledge.
What is your dream job, and why?
My dream job is a senior role in which I can address and find root solutions to humanitarian crises like poverty, hunger and education.
Do you have any message for professionals just starting out in their careers?
You still have a long way to go, so never lose hope and continue to educate yourself.
