I believe this Postgraduate Diploma will offer an in-depth look into the functioning of the Supply Chain and application of Logistics Management principles and practices, allowing me to thrive across industries.
What are you most excited to learn or explore next in your studies?
I am actually excited to learn how to manage global Supply Chains, including sourcing, procurement, distribution, cost reduction strategies and demand forecasting.
Could you outline your career goals you have in mind for after completing your current academic journey?
After completing my current academic journey, I plan on pursuing an Advanced Diploma with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), followed by a Masters in Maritime Logistics.
How are you managing your studies along with the work in your personal life?
While my free hours outside work are minimal, I plan to use it the best I can to complete my studies.
Share a specific example of a challenging goal you set for yourself and successfully accomplished. What did you learn from this experience?
Since I am currently working and studying simultaneously, I set myself the challenging goal of completing my Professional Diploma in Logistics and Transport. The experience proved demanding, requiring me to reattempt several modules to move forward. This has been the most challenging phase of my life, but I learned that giving is not an option – the zeal to continue is what counts.
From your experiences so far, what personal qualities do you think are important for achieving success?
As far as Transport and Logistics is concerned, there are certain skills that are of paramount importance. Primarily, organisational skills, or the ability to manage multiple tasks, schedules and priorities effectively, is key. Effective communication with drivers, clients, suppliers and team members is also important.
Lately, the increasing reliance on data lends importance to analytical skills, or the ability to analyze data and optimize logistics processes for cost-effectiveness and efficiency. Last, but not the least, time management skills are crucial to efficiently meet deadlines and optimize logistics operations.
Tell us about a time when you stepped outside your comfort zone to take on a leadership role. What was the outcome?
Once, a new trade route was introduced by our client and we had to quickly adjust to the new tolls, driving time and refueling points. I was initially concerned that I might make a mistake and cause unnecessary delays.
Even then, I developed two key leadership skills that made me better excel my role as a fleet controller – effective communication and problem-solving. Engaging with drivers and other key stakeholders allowed me to ensure smooth flow of operations and minimise discrepancies, while I addressed challenges and found appropriate solutions.
If you could recommend one book that you believe everyone should read, what would it be and why?
I highly recommend “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki. This book offers great insights on how one could manage his finances and investment opportunities.
What is your dream job and what motivates you about it?
My dream job is to be a Port Manager because I love the seas, nature, travelling and exploring new countries.
What advice would you offer to professionals who are just starting their careers based on your own experiences?
I cannot say much to them because I myself am still exploring what is in store for me after completing my studies at UniAthena.
