Tell us about yourself and what made you choose your program at UniAthena. How do you think it will help you in your future career?

"I am an Electrical Power Engineer with over 15 years of experience in energy portfolio management, design, and project management. My expertise includes power system planning, utility management, and the full spectrum of electricity generation, transmission, and distribution. I am currently serving as a Regional Power Systems Development Engineer at the African Development Bank in Power Systems Development and Energy Portfolio Management.

My academic background includes a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, earned in 2006, a Master’s in Electrical and Renewable Energy Engineering, completed in 2012, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA), awarded in 2020. I have extensive experience working with multilateral financing institutions, government-funded projects, and other organizations. The objective that pushed me to choose this Master's Program is to expand my procurement and project management skills while also improving my productivity, leading to improved performance. The procurement skills will help me to better understand the dynamics in the procurement industry, whereas the project management skills expected to be acquired at UniAthena will be more beneficial to my routine activities.

What are you most excited to learn or explore next in your studies?

I am more excited to learn procurement policy and procedures, procurement methods, and the rules to avoid misprocurement. I am equally enthusiastic to know the overall procedure and improve managerial skills, leading to creating trust and quality of delivered services.

Could you outline your career goals you have in mind after completing your current academic journey?

I aspire to lead large-scale, complex infrastructure projects, including power generation, transmission and distribution, road construction, and the development of large-scale facilities.

How are you managing your studies along with work in your personal life?

I primarily concentrate on my studies during the night hours and on weekends. On the weekdays, I typically rest a couple hours after work and dedicate two or three hours to studying each day, whereas on the weekends, I dedicate about eight to twelve hours.

Share a specific example of a challenging goal you set for yourself and successfully accomplished. What did you learn from this experience?

During my MBA program, when my assignment coincided with a work activity that required an emergency, it was the most challenging part of my online learning experience. Taking on assignments promptly in a timely manner is the lesson I learned. This makes the assignment easier to complete without feeling overburdened.

From your experiences so far, what personal qualities do you think are important for achieving success?

Throughout my professional experience, I have always believed in resilience and a keen curiosity to learn .Focusing on the relevant things and being flexible is the key to my success in any environment. All the things I do, I always believe in myself, striving to achieve my goals.

Tell us about a time when you stepped outside your comfort zone to take on a leadership role. What was the outcome?

This was the time when I resigned from the utility company in Rwanda, where I played a key role in the development of Rwanda's power sector, and accepted a new position as supervising engineer in Sierra Leone, a completely new environment. The outcome eventually came out excellent, and I was appreciated by the World Bank task team.

If you could recommend one book that you believe everyone should read, what would it be and why?

Rich Dad Poor Dad (Robert T. Kiosaki, 1997): The book explains the difference between working for money and earning money, using it wisely and letting it work for you.

What is your dream job, and what motivates you about it?

My dream role is to become a Program Leader for large-scale infrastructure projects in developing countries. These types of projects would have a profound impact on my professional development.

What advice would you offer to professionals just starting out based on your own experiences?

I would recommend young professionals to focus on their objectives, be creative, and most importantly, stay curious to learn new things.
