Master in Supply Chain and Logistics Management | Batch 2023

Please tell us about yourself.

I am Darius Mubengay, a pharmacist trained at the University of Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. I started my career as a Medical representative for a local pharmaceutical company. After a year and a half, I developed a love for the supply chain of health products, and there I was recruited by an international NGO, Oxfam Quebec, as a Manager of medicines and by Save the Children International as a Senior Medical Supply Chain Specialist.

What drew you to the programme you are studying at UniAthena? Do you think it would help? Do you realize your career goals?

I have been looking for programmes to improve my knowledge of supply chain management for a long time. When I came across UniAthena's Master Degree in Supply Chain and Logistics Management, I was intrigued by the comprehensive coursework of the programme and the affordable course fee. I am convinced that this course will meet my expectations considering the content of each module, which aligns closely with my objectives.

Yes, I am gradually achieving my objectives because, as I said before, I am in love with the supply chain and find it exciting to work for organizations as a Medical Supply Chain Manager. As part of my professional goals, I want to expand my knowledge of the global supply chain, and to do that, I seek a fresh, deeper understanding of the domain, which is why I'm pursuing this programme.

What would you like to learn next?

In the near future, I would like to learn about supplier quality audits and their validation processes.

What are your next career steps?

With regard to my career, once I complete my Master's degree, the next step will be to set up a small business in the field of supply chain. In the event that the means allow, I will take the leap towards earning a Phd or Doctorate title.

How has your academic journey prepared you for your career?

It prepared me extensively for decision-making and situational analysis by identifying bottlenecks and finding practical solutions.

Tell us about a time you planned and accomplished a challenging goal.

It was during my employment with Save the Children that I managed a warehouse. In an attempt to recognize employees, the organization awards warehouses that uphold good storage and distribution practices every year. In 2022, I envisioned winning this award, and I started to work with a focus on good warehouse management. After voting, my warehouse won the best Save the Children international warehouse award globally.

Considering all the people you've met in your field, what personal attributes do you believe are essential for success?

I believe the personal attributes that lead to success are: Acquiring new knowledge, asking questions when you run into problems, and effective Listening.

Describe a time you stepped outside your comfort zone and demonstrated leadership skills

In my initial days as a pharmacist by profession, I found my comfort zone to be in an office dispensing medicines or in a pharmaceutical industry preparing medicines. Eventually, I realized I could work differently while remaining concerned about medicines, and I embraced the medical supply chain, where I am evolving well so far.

Which book would you recommend as a must-read for everyone, and why?

Supply Chain Management: Purchasing, Transport, Logistics, and Sales by Rémy Le Moigne.I recommend this book since it provides a holistic view of the supply chain, which we all interact with in one way or another in our everyday lives.

What is your dream job, and why?

My dream job is to take on the role of Supply Chain Department Manager.

Do you have any message for professionals just starting out in their careers?

Have courage and hang in there; learn new things and listen attentively.
