Tell us about yourself and what made you choose your program at UniAthena? How do you think it will help you in your future career?

 

 

I am Eng. Charles Muhigirwa, a Chartered Engineer in Uganda. I want to study the PG Certificate in Project Management because it builds upon my awarded Executive Diploma in Project Management. The PGC will help me be chartered as a Project Management Practitioner and become a more efficient and effective PMP.

What are you most excited to learn or explore next in your studies? 

I am excited to learn more about contemporary project management practices.

Could you outline your career goals you have in mind for after completing your current academic journey?

The credits earned will enable me to enroll for UniAthena’s DBA program.  Earning a Doctorate will help me become a better manager, earn the scholarly title ‘Dr’ in my name, and be an influential player in senior management and academia.

How are you managing your studies along with the work in your personal life?

I lay down clear SMART goals, which refer to Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound goals. I then develop a strategy to meet those goals and address foreseeable obstacles in my plans. 

Share a specific example of a challenging goal you set for yourself and successfully accomplished. What did you learn from this experience?

Higher Education, even when online, self-paced and affordable, still demands discipline. That is why completing MEng, MEd, several of UniAthena’s Executive Diplomas, and MBA Essentials. I understood that success is about consistency, focus, compromise, dedication, and taking opportunities when they come to you.

From your experience so far, what personal qualities do you think are important for achieving success?

I find that soft skills like time management, setting SMART goals, networking, collaborations, self-awareness and self-development, and lifelong learning will help me build a prosperous professional career. 

If you could recommend one book that you believe everyone should read, what would it be and why?

‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki is a must-read. It is a classic that offers practical insights on financial literacy, mindset change, and building wealth.

What is your dream job and what motivates you about it?

After earning my Doctorate, I wish to become a University Vice President. I want to redirect education trends to encourage competence-based learning for skilling for job creation rather than job seeking.

What advice would you offer to professionals who are just starting their careers based on your own experiences?

I highly recommend aspiring young professionals to focus on building soft or employable skills from reputable learning agencies like UniAthena early in their careers. Building the skills that the job market demands is the fastest way to land your dream job or start your own business.
