Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management | Batch 2022

Please tell us about yourself.

I am Aurthi Arumugam from Arkansas, USA. I recently graduated from the University of Arkansas with my UnderGraduate Degree in Psychology & Sociology. I am the eldest child of my parents, and both of them are employed in the IT industry. I enjoy being around people I love, and I always wish to spread happiness and positivity among them. I enjoy doing things that can make a difference in people’s lives.

What drew you to the program you are studying at UniAthena? Do you think it would  help you realize your career goals?

UniAthena's 100% online course delivery drew me to the Postgraduate Diploma in Human Resource Management program. Online learning gives me the flexibility to work at my own pace. I appreciated the fact that this course helped me gain a lot of knowledge applicable to my profession.

Yes, I believe it will help me with my career goals, and this certification will add value in my professional life.

What would you like to learn next? What are your next career steps?

I would like to deepen my knowledge about the human resources field and develop my management acumen as well. After I complete this programme, I hope to land a job as a HR professional.

How has your academic journey prepared you for your career?

While I was doing my UG, I faced a lot of challenges as work was quite difficult and challenging to manage. With that experience at hand, I acquired valuable knowledge about time management and planning. During my undergraduate studies, I held leadership positions in different clubs and organisations on campus, which I believe nurtured my leadership abilities.

Tell us about a time you planned and accomplished a challenging goal.

When I was pursuing my undergraduate degree, I worked in a research lab as a research coordinator, where I managed around 30 research assistants. We had to collect and send a large amount of data in a short period of time. First, I thought it would be impossible, but I planned out strategically how each person should contribute and assigned individual tasks. With the help of my team, proper planning, and consistent effort, I was able to manage to send all the collected data in a short time frame.

Considering all the people you've met in your field, what personal attributes do you believe are essential for success?

Ambition, dedication, passion, willingness to learn after achieving a high position, effective communication, and kindness are key ingredients I consider to be the secret sauce for success.

Describe a time you stepped outside your comfort zone and demonstrated leadership skills.

I am unlikely to feel comfortable addressing a huge crowd, but  while I worked in different leadership positions, I  stepped out of my comfort zone and led large teams. It required me to take the stage, address a huge crowd, deliver speeches and presentations.

Which book would you recommend as a must-read for everyone, and why?

Man’s Search For Meaning, this book is about a Holocaust survivor of  how he dealt with all the trauma he went through and found purpose in  his life. This book shows that it is possible to move forward in life even when everything around us seems hopeless.

What is your dream job?

My dream job is to work as a Human Resource Manager. Since I would love to influence the well being and productivity of employees in the workplace, creating a more positive workplace culture, and helping others find satisfaction and gratification in what they do.
