Please tell us about yourself and your family

Hello there! I'm Ngo Viet Quy, and I was born in 1972 in Saigon, Vietnam. I am married and have two children. My oldest son is in his third year of university, majoring in law, and my second daughter will be starting in October.

I am currently working as a strategic advisor for Blocedu Ventures Ltd., a Canadian company focused on finance technology platforms.

What drew you to the programme you are studying at UniAthena? Do you think it would help you realise your career goals?

The motivation that drew me to the Master in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at UniAthena was the core subject matter I was looking for.I was seeking an upgrade to my Postgraduate Diploma in Design Thinking and Innovation, which I earned from the Institute of Emeritus. This Master degree will help me a lot in my current work to encourage innovation in my company.

What would you like to learn next? What are your next career steps?

As my next learning endeavor, I intend to pursue a PhD in innovation to support my next career move as a lecturer in digital transformation and innovation.

What do you think makes a great teacher?

Practices used in the classroom will have a significant impact on the teacher.

What is your dream job?

My ideal job would be to be a successful and well-respected advisor to agricultural businesses, particularly those involved in coffee production and export.

If you face a problem at work, what is the first thing you do?

When I have a problem at work, I try to determine the root cause.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your life? How did you tackle it?

The most difficult challenge I have ever faced in my life has been people management, as it appears that I am too open in my work, causing people to break principles, which adversely affects the business. Finally, I addressed this issue by empowering people within the metrics framework they established themselves.

If you could only change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Though I am not a perfect person, I do not want to change anything about myself because I am contented with who I am. I just wish I had more time to devote to my continued education and research on whatever subject I am interested in.

What is the last book you read and the last movie you saw?

The last book I read was Prof. Vijay Govindarajan's The Three Box Solution, and the last movie I saw was Apollo 13.

Mention one important lesson you have learned in life that has made you who you are today.

An important life lesson that I learned was from a failed business in financial services 10 years ago which inspired me to continue learning and researching for success.
