Abdikadar Osman
Administration and Finance Officer

Postgraduate Certificate in Procurement & Contracts Management | Batch 2022

Please tell us about yourself and your family.

I am a humanitarian worker, graduated with a Master's degree from the Humanitarian Aid Studies Center, Kalu Institute, Malaga, Spain.

I had extensive experience in logistics and supply chain operations in Somalia for 7 years. Presently, I'm serving as an Administration and Finance officer at the United Nations. My family includes my wife and three young daughters. My parents live together in Somalia.

What drew you to the programme you are studying at Athena? Do you think it would help you realise your career goals?

I am pursuing a Postgraduate Certificate in Procurement & Contracts Management with UniAthena. Yes, for many years, my goal has been to study and acquire more knowledge, especially in procurement and contract management.

What would you like to learn next? What are your next career steps?

As part of the capacity building improvement in the areas linked to my responsibilities in the Logistics procurement services, I would like to learn the best procurement practices and processes, contract management, performance monitoring as well as engaging and managing the relevant stakeholders. This course will help me to achieve better results.

What do you enjoy doing in your leisure time?

My kids are still small, and once I come back from work, I try to be with them as much as I can. They demand attention, and I try to play with them and answer all their questions because I understand it matters to them. However, it's not really a leisure activity. Anyway, that’s how life goes. I enjoy my role as a father, and so far I’ve managed to do a good job both as an employee and a family man.

Suppose you had to live alone on a deserted island for a month. What are the 3 things you would bring with you?

Shelter, ready meals to eat, and a first aid kit.

If you face a problem at work, what is the first thing you do?

Calm down first, get my head straight, and then find the solution.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your life? How did you tackle it

My biggest challenge in life has been my work experience. I was asked to handle logistics, which was a new role for me. I was not trained and it was quite challenging to comprehend the requirements and how everything works. However, my manager was a good supervisor and supported me after a few failed tasks and challenges until I became an expert in logistics.

If you could only change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I would like to control the level of emotions I have, save money, and continue to learn, gain more skills and experience to become a self-confident person.

What did you want to become when you were a child?

My dream was to become a boxer.

What is the last book you read and the last movie you saw?

The last book I read was Love and Money and the last movie I saw was mission impossible –fallout
