Administrative Manager
Dunkwa Area Teachers Co-operative Credit Union (DATCCU) Ltd.

Strategic Human Resource Management Practitioner

Please tell us something about yourself, your family and your interests?

I was born to Hayford Owusu-Ansah, a farmer, and Paulina Obeng, a small trader, all Ghanaian by birth. We are five (5) children and I am the third-born.

I am the Chief Executive Officer for Jenelb Consult. I am also the HR & Administrative Manager at Dunkwa Area Teachers’ Co-operative Credit Union. I have 14 years of professional experience in the areas of Management and Administration, Marketing, Credit Union Management, Human Resource Management, and Customer Service.

I have a passion for providing HR and Management Consultancy services to individuals, organizations, and institutions such as foreign universities and colleges by promoting their accredited courses/programmes and also assisting students or interested people to enroll with them.

As a professional, I currently have the following credentials to my credit:

1.Certified Professional Manager & Administrator (Full Member) from The Institute of Professional Managers & Administrators-UK.
2.Master of Business Administration with specialization in Human Resource Management from Cambridge International College-UK.
3.Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resource Management from University of Education-Winneba, Ghana.
4.Higher National Diploma (HND) in Marketing, Koforidua Polytechnic (Now Koforidua Technical University).

Currently, I have enrolled with Chartered Management Institute-UK, through Athena Global Education to acquire a professional qualification in Strategic Human Resource Management Practitioner program. I am also a student member of the Chartered Institute of Human Resource Management, Ghana.

I am married with three children, Jeffery Dwomoh-Gyamfi, Bridgette Adu-Gyamfi, and Nelda Awuah-Gyamfi.

What drew you to the program you are studying at Athena? Is it living up to your expectations?

I am proud of my international education where I am exposed to new knowledge and skills to equip me in my academic and career progress. I earlier had the zeal to be called a Chartered Human Resource Management Practitioner. I explored the internet to search for a credible and globally accredited professional body where I finally came across Athena Global Education and that was what motivated me to enroll in the Strategic Human Resource Management Practitioner – CMI program.

What would you like to learn next? What are your next career steps?

My biggest dream is to add a Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) degree to my credentials for career advancement but I need to make a lot of savings to get me to this enviable level/status.

However, the next course I will be taking up is Strategic Management with Athena Global Education. Coupled with Strategic Human Resource Management Practitioner, it will enable me to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for my already established Consultancy firm to generate a second income for myself, the needy, and the community where I live and work.

Are you working somewhere? If yes, what do you feel is the most enjoyable/rewarding aspect of your job?

The most enjoyable/rewarding aspect of my job in HR & Administration Management is building relationships with my team and the client I am providing service for. Personally, it has given me the opportunity to grow and learn from a wide range of individuals with diverse backgrounds. It gives me a great deal of pleasure to see that my client feels comfortable asking for professional advice when a new product/service is introduced.

What do you see as your greatest strength?

I value learning by myself and from my colleagues. I take time to join professional bodies/associations and also attend conferences, read books to further my knowledge of working with other people. As the HR leader, I am often the first person to contact new employees, and I play an important role in ensuring those hires are successfully integrated into their role in the organization.

Further, I advocate for organizational mentorship and coaching programs that improve employees’ work performance and increase engagement. I take a genuine interest in helping others to succeed and assist them to fulfil their responsibilities.

Again, as a professional, I have specialized in everything from compensation and benefits to labour laws of the land so I make sure my company complies with the regulations regarding work and employees.

What is your most cherished memory?

Well, there are a couple of memories that I have a special fondness for and I always smile from ear to ear whenever they come to mind. Those special ones keep me happy and leave a significant mark on me as I grow older and become wiser as days go by.

There is this particular memory that I would like to share with you regarding how I was able to enroll myself in the Master's program.

In 2015, I bought a Pontiac Vibe so that my family and I could commute to work and spend holidays when the need arises. In early 2016, my CEO advised that I should go for higher education so that I can take up the position of HR & Administrative Manager at my workplace. Meanwhile, they were not ready to sponsor my education so I took charge and sold my car to enroll in a Master of Business Administration program with a specialization in Human Resource Management.

It was not easy though, but I managed to graduate as an MBA holder and I can tell you specifically that I am one of the most cherished employees at the workplace. Remember that nothing good is given to you on a silver platter, with determination and hard work, you can do everything – that was my motivational message to myself.

Which country have you always wanted to visit and why ?

I have never traveled outside Ghana before but if the opportunity is given, I would prefer to visit the United Kingdom for further studies where I can apply for a scholarship. The other factor is, the British once colonized Ghana and I would be happy to see the white man’s land in the future.

Do you have professional role models? Who are they and what do you find inspiring about them and their accomplishments?

Dr. Offin Amaniampong Owusu has been my unique inspirer and a role model for the past 10 years.  He is affable, tolerant, always willing to educate and encourage me in every step I take in my life, especially in my educational development.

He is a teacher at the Senior High School and you would never believe that such a person can go the extra mile in attaining such an academic status in the community where I live and work. He is always ready to impart knowledge to the people in his community.

Dr. Offin Amaniampong Owusu is also a businessman. He has invested in the Car Washing business and has recruited a number of employees who are on his payroll. He is a Management Consultant and that motivated me to establish Jenelb Consult which is an HR & Management Consultancy firm in Ghana.

If you could go on a road trip with anyone in history, who would it be?

I think it would be my girlfriend but I am now married

What have you learnt from your experiences that you would like to pass on to others?

I have learned a lot from my experiences but what I can say for now is this; Life is full of ups and downs but you should never give up. Just believe in yourself, trust God and forge ahead as you unveil your success in life. Always remember that every good thing is not achieved on a silver platter, struggle for it and you would be a success.
