Master of Business Administration Batch 2022

Please tell us about yourself and your family.

My name is Daunette Ward, I live in the Capital of Guyana with my husband and daughter. I have completed the Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management and have over 8-9 years of working experience in the administrative field.

What drew you to the program you are studying at Athena? Do you think it will help you to realise your career goals?

It was always a personal goal of mine to complete my MBA. I wrote on my vision board and decided it was the right time to increase my knowledge and scope in the field of business. I believe the MBA would assist in me realizing my career goals as the topics listed through the course can open my mind to different areas of business.

What would you like to learn next? What are your next career steps?

Personally, I would like to learn more about leadership capacity and then move into more senior roles, where I can tackle challenges as they arise, with more confidence.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Life has become so fast-paced that there is not much spare time to enjoy especially being a wife, mom, and career professional. However, with the little time I can spare, I try to enjoy as much family time I can gain, either with an activity or movie night.

Suppose you had to live alone on a deserted island for a month. What are the 3 things you will bring with you?

The three things I would take are my Bible as the word of God gives comfort through reading, food and water for basic survival.

If you face a problem at work, what is the first thing you do?

The first thing I do is to take a step back and analyze the problem, understand the facts, list the possible solutions and outcomes, weigh the pros and cons and then make a final decision.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your life? How did you tackle it?

The biggest challenge was losing my 5-month baby through a miscarriage. The challenge was accepting there was a reason for the loss and doctors had no explanation for it. I tackled it by embracing what I felt and allowing myself to grieve through the process and comfort myself that it’s not the end.

If you could only change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

There isn’t anything physical I would change at this point, as everything makes me the unique person I am. However, I would change the introverted (shy) side of me. I would rather be a bold, confident, and outspoken person, especially along the lines of public speaking.

What did you want to become when you were a child?

As a child, it was always my dream to become a pediatrician. I love children and enjoy helping and nurturing them.

What is the last book you read and the movie you saw?

The last book I read was “The Purpose Driven Life” By Rick Warren & the last movie I watched was “Akeelah & the Bee”.

Who is the person you admire most and why?

The person I admire the most is my mom. She is a strong woman and full of faith and hope. She can also be fearless and believes in God. No matter how hopeless the situation is, she never gives up.
