IMBA 2020 Batch

Please tell us something about yourself, your family and your interests?

I am Ali from Yemen. I work as a cashier at the International Committee of the  Red Cross (ICRC) in the administration and financial department. I have been working with this humanitarian company for three years. I am interested to polish my skills in financial business and accounting management. I am happy to work for the Red Cross to support humanitarian action which aims to achieve the goal of helping people who suffer due to conflict, as for example, in my country, Yemen. I married in 2018 and  I have a son.

I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the  English Education Department of Sana University in 2014. I worked as an English teacher for three years and as a  translator for one year. Soon after, I discovered my passion for business and accounting and wanted to develop my future career in these areas. Thereafter, I started to learn by myself, read, and take different online courses on these subjects.

What drew you to the program you are studying at Athena? Is it living up to your expectations?

There are three reasons that drew me to study at Athena. Firstly, my passion to acquire more knowledge in business administration, international marketing, and sharpening my finance skills at the same time. I found that the IMBA course meets my specific needs to learn these subjects and improve my career performance.

Secondly, the fee is affordable and the time of learning is flexible. Moreover, Athena Global Education uses the best modern technology tools for online studying.

Finally, the IMBA program is designed in partnership with Guglielmo Marconi University (GMU), a recognized and fully accredited university located in Rome,  Italy, and is regulated by both Italian and the EU regulatory agencies. Also, it awards a Diploma from SQA, UK, and a Certified Manager certification from  CMI, UK  for the IMBA program. I can get so many qualifications in this program.

What would you like to learn next? What are your next career steps?

After completion of IMBA, I hope to go for an accounting certificate such as a CPA or CMA. That would improve my career prospects. For example, I could become a Finance & Administration Manager.

What do you feel is the most enjoyable/rewarding aspect of your job?

I like my job as it relates to the financial and administration sectors. In the coming days, I plan to be an accountant or financial and administration manager.

What do you see as your greatest strength?

My greatest strength is readiness to learn new things and apply that knowledge at work.

What is your most cherished memory?

My most cherished memory is my wedding day.

Which country have you always wanted to visit and why?

I want to visit the USA as I wish to study there.

Do you have professional role models? Who are they and what do you find inspiring about them and their accomplishments?

My professional role model is the manager of the financial and administration department of my company, Mohammed Al Sharafi. He was also my line manager. He is a remarkable leader of our team. He always directs and helps the team. All the employees respect and love him. He is very strict too. He has a unique ability to solve problems in line with the policies and procedures of the company. He knows what his responsibilities are and how to achieve them.  He is never afraid of making bold decisions. Moreover, he devotes time to learning and developing himself. I admire him for making me realize that you should make an effort to acquire new skills from every experience.

If you could go on a road trip with anyone in history, who would it be?

There are many historical people I wish to go on a road trip with. But the greatest person I wish to go with is our Prophet Mohammed. Also, another historical person I would like to go with is, Mahatma Gandhi, a man of peace and wisdom..

What have you learnt from your experiences that you would like to pass on to others?

I believe that learning from real life is much better than learning at campus. So, I have learned major things that I couldn’t figure out through my studies. The most important thing, I discovered myself and came to know myself well. I understand my strengths and weaknesses. I understand what I need to learn and develop. I determine, where am I? What do I want to be? So, if we realize this, we can reach our goals. We only need to have enormous passion and perseverance to follow our dreams. Don’t let others dictate to you what to do and what you want for your future. Try to deal with the good and bad in life in a balanced way. Don’t let the wind blow you away. Be strong and solid. Love and help others without expecting an exchange or reward.
