Press Release
04 February, 2021

We are happy to announce that Mr. Ronald Robertson, our student from Zimbabwe has been selected as the winner of the Writing competition held from December 20, 2020, to January 1, 2021..

Ronald’s topic was an illustration of the factors contributing to the failure of the strategic management process in companies.

Ronald is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) program and he is the Technical Director of PowerTel Communications, Zimbabwe.

When asked how he feels about being the Winner of the writing competition, Ronald was exultant, “This world is a highly competitive and complex dynamic entity so winning makes me feel greatly honored. When I started working on the essay I did not think I could go this far. Anyway, here we are, and  this gives me confidence.” He thanked his wife Audrey profusely for encouraging him to participate in the competition and pursuing a DBA degree.

Ronald gives a list of how he copes with his studies despite having a very busy schedule. He admits that he does not plan much but the following steps help:

  • Multitasking
  • Creating time to work on studies by taking leave, working outside usual hours and this includes working late on quiet nights and weekends.
  • Commencing studies and tasks early in the day. Putting the first foot forward is pivotal to undertaking every task.
  • Studying for limited hours frequently rather than starting late and stressing oneself by doing a lot in a limited period. The first approach enables one to get more done rather than doing a lot.
  • Making full use of technology: emails, video conferences, reminders, schedules to create time slots.
  • Earmarking all tasks as MUST do AND not could do or may do or SHOULD do. There is so much to be done in this world yet there is so little time.
  • Striving to get a Lot DONE during free time.

Ronald says that managing work-life balance is a huge challenge. He undertakes the following initiatives to create a healthy work-life balance.

  • Setting boundaries between work and life and abiding by them.
  • Taking leave, and not selling leave days for cash.
  • Socializing while working. Communicating and setting automatic updates on the phone so as to be socially up to date.
  • Going on vacations which his wife plans well in advance.
  • Drawing up a time schedule for exercising and lunches with the family.

We are confident that Ronald will become a prolific writer and we wish him all luck for future endeavors.
