Please tell us about yourself.
I am a Computer Engineer specialized in Software Development and Database Management with a BSc in Information Systems and Networking. I am inclined to follow and learn new trends with a deep passion for data and AI.
What drew you to the programme you are studying at UniAthena? Do you think it would help you realize your career goals?
I discovered about the programme through a Facebook advertisement. I was drawn to it precisely because the monthly payment plan suited me. I want to be a data scientist, and this master's degree is a strategic roadmap towards achieving that goal.
What would you like to learn next?
I would love to acquire more practical skills and tools in data science and delve deeper into machine learning and blockchain.
What are your next career steps?
My next career step is to land a high-paying data science job and become more proficient in this booming field.
How has your academic journey prepared you for your career?
I possess an excellent background in the field. My experience as a student of computer engineering has helped me learn programming and solve complex problems.
Tell us about a time you planned and accomplished a challenging goal.
Following my graduation in early 2020, my goal was to secure an engineering job at a leading enterprise to gain relevant experience. This was challenging because I was in an underdeveloped country where IT infrastructure was nonexistent, training was relatively poor, and jobs were scarce. I had to acquire relevant skills and training from several platforms, work for several startups, and freelance on various projects to gain experience. In May 2021, I was recruited by a client for a reputed state corporation where I am currently employed.
Considering all the people you've met in your field, what personal attributes do you believe are essential for success?
To succeed, I believe one must have clear and measurable goals, pursue what one enjoys, stay motivated, be open-minded, continually learn, and be patient.
Describe a time you stepped outside your comfort zone and demonstrated leadership skills.
In 2020, I worked for a startup as a back-end developer in Python with the Django framework. I was new to it, and the startup was working on a massive project for a state corporation. When my colleague left, I became a more important member of the team. I began meeting with clients to present project developments. It was quite challenging, as I had to develop high-level connections with high-profile individuals. Fortunately, everything turned out well, and I met people who later recommended me for my current job.
Which book would you recommend as a must-read for everyone, and why?
“Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. For me, it is the best self-help book, as it covers all areas of life. Personal development is crucial as it improves one’s discipline and overall performance in any work environment.
What is your dream job, and why?
I dream of working as a data scientist for a company that offers data-driven solutions. I enjoy this kind of job because it involves working on diverse projects in different domains. I hope to offer such services in my country one day, as the African continent will have a huge demand for data services in the future.
Do you have any message for professionals just starting their careers?
My key message for young professionals is to be open to learning new things.
