Please tell us about yourself.

I am a father of two and happily married. I hold two engineering degrees coupled with a deep passion for cost-saving and efficiency. I am currently working as a continuous process improvement engineer within the manufacturing field, specializing in the mining sector.

What drew you to the programme you are studying at UniAthena? Do you  think it would help you realize your career goals.

Online learning at your own pace with no conventional hand-written exams is something that triggered me to join UniAthena. While I don't expect immediate results, I believe it will contribute to my insights into the dynamics of the corporate landscape.

What would you like to learn next?

I am keen to broaden my understanding of CPI management, emphasising operations and finance.

What are your next career steps?

My next career move would be pursuing an MBA degree further with UniAthena.

How has your academic journey prepared you for your career?

My academic background in mechanical engineering, along with an additional industrial engineering degree, combined with over a decade of experience in design engineering, has enhanced my ability to identify inefficiencies in both design and manufacturing processes.

Tell us about a time you planned and accomplished a challenging goal.

In my role as a design engineer, I designed and built a system capable of transferring the rear section of a vehicle 12 metres within a 78-second Takt time, a project considered impossible by other international companies. This remarkable project was executed within a span of just 4 months and was incorporated into operations at Toyota in Durban, South Africa.

Considering all the people you've met in your field, what personal attributes do you believe are essential for success?

I firmly believe networking, a solid grasp of interpersonal communication, complemented by academic success, empower one to succeed in their field.

Describe a time you stepped outside your comfort zone and demonstrated leadership skills.

I'm currently tasked with managing a customer complaint regarding one of our products, and there seems to be resistance within our team to address the issue. As my first attempt at resolving the internal problem, this is completely beyond my comfort zone to lead the investigation, identify the root cause, and bring it to a close.

Which book would you recommend as a must-read for everyone, and why?

Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell is an excellent book that gives a fresh perspective on why certain individuals or groups achieve success while others do not.

What is your dream job, and why?

My dream job is to become a Motorbike Expert, specializing in Italian machines. My fascination with machines is beyond measure.

Do you have any messages for professionals just starting out in their careers?

Professionals venturing into a new field should strive to develop a network quickly, seek help from mentors and seasoned professionals to accelerate their learning curve. They should acquire an industry-relevant skill set and then broaden their expertise.
