I am Fayomi Kehinde Adeseun, originally from Nigeria, and I’ve recently moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands. I have a bachelor’s degree in Animal Production and Health from Nigeria. I have been managing varying roles ranging from Management to Production Control, which encouraged me to learn Data analysis.
What drew you to the programme you are studying at UniAthena? Do you think it would help you realize your career goals?
I was drawn to the Data Science program at UniAthena owing to my inherent analytical skills and a deep-seated passion for solving complex business challenges. I had a diploma in Data Analytics from UniAthena and it was truly a transforming experience. The program aligns perfectly with my career goals by providing a comprehensive understanding of Data Analysis, coupled with a focus on creating and implementing strategies to optimise production and improve sales. I am confident that this program will play a pivotal role in realizing my career goals by enhancing my expertise in Data Science and strengthening my ability to drive positive business outcomes.

In my ongoing pursuit of professional development, I am eager to delve deeper into Machine Learning and Big Data.

My next career step is to gain more experience in the field of data science and also explore the world of Machine Learning.
How has your academic journey prepared you for your career?
My Master in Data Science has not only provided me with the required technical skills but has also fostered a mindset of continuous learning and adaptability. I believe this blend is essential for navigating the complexities of the ever-evolving data landscape in my career.
Tell us about a time you planned and accomplished a challenging goal.
One example of planning and accomplishing a challenging goal in my life was obtaining my Master in Data Science while living in the Netherlands. Managing the demands of a rigorous master's program alongside the responsibilities of work and relocation required meticulous planning, time management, and a resilient mindset. The challenge was not just academic but also encompassed adapting to a new cultural and professional environment.
However, fuelled by a strong passion for data science and unwavering determination to advance my skills, I successfully navigated through this demanding period. The experience not only enhanced my academic and professional capabilities but also reinforced my belief in the power of dedication and perseverance.
Considering all the people you've met in your field, what personal attributes do you believe are essential for success?
The commitment to practising constantly and learning new skills are the key personal attributes that empower individuals to succeed in the data science field. This not only helps them become proficient but also thrive in a rapidly evolving and competitive landscape.
Describe a time you stepped outside your comfort zone and demonstrated leadership skills.
Presently, I serve as the Team Lead responsible for crafting configurations for the upcoming bathroom collections at the company where I am employed. Our current project involves developing an application designed to scan bathrooms and generate detailed layouts that constitute the entire bathroom setup. This innovative app is slated for deployment across six different countries. "The accuracy and precision of the configurations I create are vital to the application’s effectiveness. It is essential to get these configurations right to ensure optimal functionality across various settings."
Which book would you recommend as a must-read for everyone, and why?
One book that I would highly recommend as a must-read for everyone is "Thinking, Fast, and Slow" by Daniel Kahneman. This book provides valuable insights into the two systems that drive the way we think: fast and intuitive, alongside slow and deliberate.
What is your dream job, and why?
My dream job is to take on the role of a Data Scientist: This encompasses my passion for problem-solving, continuous learning, impactful decision-making, versatility, and innovation—all of which make it the ideal career path for me.
Do you have any message for professionals just starting out in their careers?
I would emphasize the importance of knowing what you want and pursuing it with unwavering determination, regardless of the challenges you may encounter. Identify your passion, strengths, and long-term goals. Once you have a clear understanding of your aspirations, channel your efforts and energy into achieving them.
Networking and building relationships within your industry can also be invaluable. Surround yourself with mentors and peers who can offer guidance, insights, and support as you navigate the early stages of your career.
