Tell us about yourself and what made you choose your program at UniAthena? How do you think it will help you in your future career?

My name is Alex, and I am currently a Relationship Manager for Public Sector and institutions at Equity BCDC in DRC.  I am also a Training Manager. I chose to pursue an MBA at UniAthena to deepen my knowledge in management and leadership. This program will help me strengthen my professional skills and provide better service to my clients while opening new career opportunities.

What are you most excited to learn or explore next in your studies?

I am particularly excited to learn advanced management and leadership techniques. I look forward to exploring topics such as Strategic Management and decision-making in business.

Could you outline your career goals you have in mind for after completing your current academic journey?

After completing my MBA, I aim to secure a leadership position in the Banking sector, where I can apply my new skills to lead teams and develop innovative strategies for our clients.

How are you managing your studies along with the work in your personal life?

I have implemented a rigorous time management plan to balance my studies, work, and personal life. I use planning tools and allocate specific time slots for each activity to stay organized and efficient.

Share a specific example of a challenging goal you set for yourself and successfully accomplished. What did you learn from this experience?

One challenging goal I set for myself was providing financial support to an institutional client during an emergency at the end of the year. The client needed funds to meet operational needs and ensure payroll. This situation required increased reactivity and proactivity, as well as coordination of multiple teams. I had to quickly obtain approval from the responsible parties to handle the case urgently. Through effective management and clear communication with all stakeholders, we managed to meet the client’s needs in a timely manner. This experience taught me the importance of reactivity, planning, and collaboration to achieve ambitious goals under pressure.

From your experiences so far, what personal qualities do you think are important for achieving success?

Perseverance, adaptability, and leadership are essential qualities for success. Being open to change and knowing how to motivate others are also valuable traits.

Tell us about a time when you stepped outside your comfort zone to take on a leadership role. What was the outcome?

I was elected by my colleagues as Project Manager for improving financial inclusion in the Democratic Republic of Congo through the use of digital banking products. This position forced me to step outside my comfort zone and take on a leadership role to lead a multidisciplinary team of over 50 young bankers. Through this project, I was able to implement my managerial skills and motivate my team to achieve our common goals. The project was successful, and all participants completed the training program. This experience taught me the importance of collaboration, clear communication, and effective resource management to achieve significant results.

If you could recommend one book that you believe everyone should read, what would it be and why?

I would recommend "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey. This book offers practical advice on personal development and time management, which are valuable for anyone looking to improve their effectiveness.

What is your dream job and what motivates you about it?

My dream job is to become a Strategy Director in a major banking institution, and a Professor. What motivates me the most is the possibility of leading innovative projects and contributing to the development of effective strategies for the company.

What advice would you offer to professionals who are just starting their careers based on your own experiences?

I advise young professionals to always seek to learn and develop. Adopt a proactive attitude, be open to new opportunities, and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone.
