Please tell us something about yourself, your family and your  interests.

I am Muhammad Idris Bin Abdul Nazar, currently working on my Master in Supply Chain and Logistics management. I work as an operations and business continuity planning manager in the Ministry of Manpower. My work involves scheduling of teams to  follow up and plan for the operations of the day and using various data to develop strategies and techniques which enhance overall effectiveness.

I come from a relatively well to do family but I did not want to take advantage of it. I started from scratch as I wanted to be independent and responsible. We have a very strong bonding among us.

Swimming is one of my favourite activities. I enjoy the sensation of floating on water and being practically weightless. I am also interested in golf. Anyone can enjoy playing a variety of golf games, whether alone, with friends, or with complete strangers. Lastly, I would like to to improve global marketing strategy by targeting specific markets and  more.

What drew you to the program you are studying at Athena? Is it living up to your expectations?

I would like to make a effective difference in the systems and that’s what drew me to the program and yes, it is living up to my expectations. I aim to make this society a better place for everyone. I want to enhance the system to make it comprehensible to all. Most importantly, it must be done in a  time efficient and cost effective manner.

What would you like to learn next? What are your next career steps?

I want to learn about Blockchain and get certified. I always believed in hopping on the bandwagon, I love to be involved in an activity which has gained popularity and which will help me to grow physically, mentally and emotionally! Since Blockchain has greater security, better transparency and increased efficiency, I am eager to learn more about it. I see myself as a Blockchain Developer.

Tell us about a couple of your achievements that have been particularly rewarding.

In the course of my career, I have honed an aptitude in negotiating deals with customers, both local and international. While I was employed in I Perfumes as a wholesaler, I used to look after  the import and export business. There was an incident in which an order was shipped to the wrong supplier, who rejected the order of SGD $140,000. I tried but was unable to get a full refund from the owner. As such, I made the decision to store it in the warehouse and retail the product, which yielded profitable returns. This mistake was made by my manager. I   turned the company worth SGD $50,000 to SGD $300,000 during my contract.

What acquired skill have you always wanted to learn?

I would like to improve my interpersonal skills. I want to effectively communicate, interact and work with individuals and groups. By improving my interpersonal skills, it will be easier for me to grow my company in the future and successfully make deals. I will be able to handle government and non-government tenders. I would like to give back to my community as much as I can.

If you could go back in time, what time would you go to?

If I could go back in time , I would like to go back to my younger days and start investments which would have led me to to long term success. I wish I could have saved my money and not spend it unnecessarily. Lastly, I wish I were a blockchain explorer, investing in bitcoin, sub wallets and others.

Any person, living or dead, you would like to have dinner with?

Yes, my late grandfather. He used to be a very successful man. He had volunteered in Sagam and was a chainman. He was the most responsible and busy man I had ever known. He set real goals and made sure he accomplished them. Even towards his last few days, he was volunteering, giving anonymous flowers to colleagues and spreading happiness as much as he could. I really wish he was still around, but I know for sure he is in a much better place now.

Which fictional character would you like to meet?

I would love to meet Jay Gatsby in the novel The Great Gatsby, the best American novel I have ever come across. Jay Gatsby  has always been an inspiration to me. He was born about 1890 into a poor rancher family. Despite going through hardships, he persevered and kept going. That brought him success! I would love to meet him some day.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given? How has it changed your life?

Change your thinking, change your life. When hard time comes, tell yourself this will have to pass as well. Every situation in life is temporary.
