Recently, a movie called “Hridyam” where the director Vineeth Sreenivasan tried his best to extract emotions from the most humdrum of situations and amplify them with beautiful frames and soothing background music left a mark on me. The movie is basically on Arun Neelakandan’s life journey, right from his college life in a different city away from his parents, unexpected love affair and breakups, and how some people and experiences shape him and he finally becomes a settled family man. This movie shows recollections of a life journey and details how human life is influenced by the type of individual you become in the future.
As the movie rightly points out, it’s the different influences that make us what we are. Relationships are crucial for survival as a human being. At home, the workplace, society... we need people around us for acceptance, motivation, trust, disclosure, communication, self-awareness, encouragement, and conflict handling. These form the pillars in human relations for personal growth, happiness, and satisfaction. An inclusive relationship environment motivates and impacts human relationships.
The quality of relationships with people in personal life influences us, for example, the way one speaks, behaves and responds. In organizations or companies, teamwork often influences each other in several ways. Individuals interact with a variety of people as peers, subordinates, and supervisors. They also belong to informal groups where usually powerful human relationships develop. In any organization, Employee-Employer relations are also crucial.
The famous psychologist Sydney Jourard says, maximum joy in our life comes from our happy relationships with other people, and most of the problems in our lives stem from unhappy relationships with them. The majority of problems in life center around problems with people. Learning how to develop and maintain the best human relationships can do more for your career and personal life than perhaps anything else you can accomplish. Almost 80% of one’s success in life is determined by his/her social skills, the ability to interact positively and effectively with others and get them to cooperate with you and help achieve your goals.
Research shows that in the U.S.A., the most highly paid form of intelligence is social intelligence, that is, the ability to get along well with other people. Nowadays, people are using social media like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp to connect with people across the globe and retain their old relations.
So there comes the next important question: HOW TO DEVELOP GOOD HUMAN RELATIONS?
