Please tell us about yourself.

My name is Elias Al Chalouhi. Currently, I'm pursuing a Master degree in Engineering Management from UniAthena in alliance with GMU, Italy. I have a passion for technology and management, and I'm eager to apply my skills in real-world scenarios.

What drew you to the programme you are studying at UniAthena? Do you think it would help you realize your career goals?

I was drawn to the Master in Engineering Management programme at UniAthena because of its comprehensive curriculum that combines engineering principles with management strategies. I believe this programme will equip me with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue leadership roles in the engineering industry, thus helping me realize my career goals.

What would you like to learn next?

In addition to mastering engineering management, I am interested in deepening my understanding of project management methodologies.

What are your next career steps?

My next career steps involve gaining practical experience through internships or work-study opportunities in the engineering management field. Ultimately, I aim to secure a leadership position in a reputable engineering firm where I can contribute my expertise and drive organizational success.

How has your academic journey prepared you for your career?

My academic journey has provided me with a solid foundation in both engineering principles and management theories. Through coursework and projects. I have honed my critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for success in the engineering management landscape.

Tell us about a time you planned and accomplished a challenging goal:

During my final semester project at the university, I took the initiative to lead my team in developing a software application. Despite facing technical challenges and tight deadlines, I organized our tasks efficiently, allocated resources effectively, and ensured the timely completion of the project, earning commendations from our professors.

Considering all the people you've met in your field, what personal attributes do you believe are essential for success?

In my experience, personal attributes such as resilience, adaptability, teamwork, and strong communication skills are essential for success in the engineering management field. The ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams, navigate complex challenges, and communicate ideas clearly are key factors that contribute to professional growth and achievement.

Describe a time you stepped outside your comfort zone and demonstrated leadership skills.

I stepped outside my comfort zone when I took the lead on a village improvement project. Despite feeling uncertain, I organized the effort and motivated others to join in. This experience pushed me to lead effectively and make a positive impact on our community.

Which book would you recommend as a must-read for everyone, and why?

I highly recommend 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' by Robert Kiyosaki, even for those pursuing a Masters in Engineering Management like myself. While the book may not directly relate to engineering, its lessons on financial literacy and mindset are universally applicable. In today's dynamic business landscape, engineers often find themselves in leadership roles where understanding financial principles and an entrepreneurial mindset are crucial. 'Rich Dad, Poor Dad' offers valuable insights into wealth-building, investment strategies, and the importance of thinking beyond traditional employment, all of which are beneficial for engineering managers aiming to excel in their careers and build a secure financial future.

My dream job is to serve as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for a forward-thinking technology company. In this role, I would have the opportunity to lead innovation initiatives, drive technological advancements, and shape the strategic direction of the organization, thereby making a meaningful impact on society through technology-driven solutions.

Do you have any message for professionals just starting out in their careers?

My message for professionals just starting out in their careers is to embrace every opportunity as a chance to learn, grow, and expand their limits. Be proactive, seek out mentorship, and don't be afraid to take risks or pursue your passions. Remember that success is not always linear, so stay resilient, stay focused, and believe in your abilities to achieve your goals.
