Please tell us about yourself.

I am Lochan Alfred Ilukol, born in 1989, and hold a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering. Currently, I am employed as a Civil Engineer at Karenga District Local Government, Uganda.

What drew you to the programme you are studying at UniAthena? Do you think it would help you realise your career goals?

The most critical aspect that piqued my interest in this programme was its potential for career-building and broadening my knowledge of the engineering profession. Yes, I believe it would be helpful.

What would you like to learn next?

After this postgraduate diploma, I would like to upgrade to the master's level in engineering.

What are your next career steps?

Attaining a Master Degree after the completion of this postgraduate diploma is the next career step I aspire to take.

How has your academic journey prepared you for your career?

 On a broader canvas, it has sparked my curiosity to explore more pertaining to my career field.

Tell us about a time you planned and accomplished a challenging goal.

In 2016, I worked with colleagues on a project proposal, where I was the secretary of the team and had to manage everything.

Considering all the people you've met in your field, what personal attributes do you believe are essential for success?

Teamwork, experimenting with new ideas, brainstorming discussions, and reading insightful articles are some of the critical attributes that lead to success.

Describe a time you stepped outside your comfort zone and demonstrated leadership skills.

Pushing the boundaries, I facilitated meetings and led colleagues through hands-on assessments to comprehend the intricacies of road and building infrastructure.

What is your dream job, and why?

I am currently working at Karenga District Local Government as a civil engineer, but I am looking forward to being promoted to senior engineer. Subsequently, I endeavor to attain registration from the Uganda Engineers Registration Board (UERB) of Uganda, paving the way to serve as a district engineer for my local government."

For professionals starting fresh, commitment, staying up to your tasks, and focusing on career building make all the difference.
