Reinventing Organizations with the Next Stage of Human Consciousness

In one of my casual conversations with a CEO of a Japanese Company having a manufacturing setup in India, Joe emphasized that he had no employees. Still, all are owners meaning those who share the purpose of the organization working together for the bigger goal and are owners of the company. They are at the helm of all decision-making and hence feel fully committed to all their activities. Individuals' growth determines the organization's development; hence, both identities grow parallelly.

As this concept churned my thought process, my attention caught a pop-up YouTube video about Zappos, where values and culture-driven organizations are now fully embracing self-management. They quoted about one book by Frederic Laloux on Reinventing Organizations. 

In the book, the author talks about organizations evolving from impulsive to conformist to achiever to pluralistic to an evolutionary organization. The level of Consciousness in the organization is divided into colors from red to teal. The journey from red to teal is an experience of evolving at every stage of maturity of organizations.

The teal organization focuses on three breakthrough concepts - self-management, wholeness, and evolutionary purpose.

Few organizations started practicing the next stage of Human Consciousness and achieving success. Those organizations replaced the hierarchical pyramid of authority with Self-management. Organizations are seen as living entities with their own creative potential and evolutionary purpose. The human consciousness in those organizations are as below: 

1. Life as a journey of unfolding instead of pre-planned goals and routes.  

2. Internal yardstick to grow is to work with your true nature toward your calling.   

3. A well-lived life brings success and profit, not vice versa.   

4. Focus on strengths, not on failures and what‘s wrong.

5. No mistakes, only opportunities to learn. 

6. Wisdom beyond rationality.

7. Integrating mind-body-soul.

8. Be true to yourself.

9. Striving for wholeness with Self, others, life, and nature.

As the Barrett Culture centre says: “Values-driven organizations are the most successful organizations on the planet.” The Barret Culture Survey backs this up: values and behaviors drive culture, culture drives employee fulfillment, employee fulfillment drives customer satisfaction, and customer satisfaction drives shareholder value.”

The teal organization takes this established wisdom to the next level, brings value to the table for all stakeholders, and is ever-evolving.
